Obama Controversy Continues; Damage Control Speech Today

Today, Barack Obama will deliver an address on the issue of race, clearly an effort at damage control as the story of his pastor Jeremiah Wright's outrageously racist, hateful and profane views continues to escalate.

Update 10:52am-- Drudge link to text of speech

Rich Lowry of National Review points out that Obama's denials are quite hollow since, in his book, Obama recounts how in the first sermon he ever heard from Wright the pastor used many of the same themes that are at the center of the controvery.

Lowry says Wright reveals the "central contradiction of the Obama campaign":

"an orthodox liberal politician who rose to prominence in a left-wing milieu in Chicago and has never broken with his party on anything of consequence is campaigning on unifying the country. There is nothing particularly unifying about Obama’s past and his voting record. The senator has risen on his words, and will be hard-pressed to talk his way out of his long, jarring association with the gleefully divisive Rev. Jeremiah Wright."

I was interviewed by OneNewsNow which published this story on my comments.

I did not need a history lesson on race relations or quotes from his book.
We didn't know his past and relationship with such a racist minister before now.
He and Rev. Wright have made this about race.  Obama needs to know
it isn't about race, but about his relationship with Rev. Wright and his
poor judgment in maintaining such a long relationship with this minister.
This is about the truth of Mr. Obama's past coming back to bite him.
This is were he came from and what he believes in.  This is about a
man who's guided him most of his adult life.
There's no "misunderstanding" about Rev. Wright and what he believes
or has preached.  We've seen and heard it for ourselves.  There's just
no way that over 20 years Mr. Obama never heard or spoke to his
mentor and reverend about these thoughts and feelings of his.
Just not credible!  Unbelievable still!  Nothing changes with this speech.

P.S. And there was no "God bless you!" and "God bless America!" as
most political people would say to end a speech like this.

Boy, Rush, was sure right on. Wish I was that quick and clever.

Sure wish we had another candidate I could support.
