Grassfire Report, 5/14/07

==Storyboards to stop amnesty
==Reid’s power play
==Your Presidential Straw Poll
==A Fair Tax
==Your note of encouragement to Ramos and Compean

Ron De Jong and I have been pouring over storyboards (thumbnails shown to right) and casting videos for Grassfire.org’s upcoming blockbuster multi-media campaign to stop Congress’ push for amnesty.

This project has the potential to ignite a wildfire of opposition to the latest amnesty bills and create a national buzz that Congress will not be able to ignore. Next week, Ron will be on site in Arizona for the shoot. At that time, we will give you more details on this project as Ron files reports from Arizona.

Reid pushes amnesty
The ad’s timing is perfect. This week, Harry Reid is using the leverage of Senate rules to force debate on an amnesty bill. Reid says he will move forward with last year’s bill if the Kennedy-Bush negotiators do not come up with something by Wednesday.

Reid and others know that the longer the build-up to an amnesty bill, the more citizen opposition will grow. They want to short-circuit grassroots opposition by pushing some amnesty bill through.

Please call Harry Reid and tell him you oppose his effort to fast-track an amnesty bill:
Reid’s Majority Leader office: 202-224-5556
Reid’s Senate office: 202-224-3524

Your Presidential straw poll
As you may know, Grassfire is currently conducting a 2008 Presidential Straw Poll. Early results are quite interesting. We will be releasing results to the media once every Grassfire team member has the opportunity to participate. Go here to complete your Straw Poll.

A Fair Tax
The Fair Tax Act just reached a record-number of co-sponsors in the House, and Congressman John Linder is crediting “grassroots support” for this success. Grassfire is a strong supporter of the Fair Tax -- which would eliminate double taxation, rid us of the IRS and release our economy from the current burdensome tax structure.

I would encourage you to read up on the Fair Tax and sign our petition.

Shipping notes of encouragement to Ramos and Compean

Monica Ramos and Patty Compean -- wives of the imprisoned border patrol agents -- have been providing regular updates to our team members on their FireSociety blogs. They report that their husbands are extremely encouraged by the flood of letters they have received from Grassfire team members.

Well, this Friday, we are going to print off and send to them comments from citizens across the country posted on their FireSociety blogs. If you would like your note of encouragement included in this delivery, simply go to their respective blogs and post your comments.

Go here to leave a comment for Nacho Ramos.

Go here to leave a comment for Jose Compean.

Exposing open borders myth

Finally, we continue to field numerous media requests. I was just asked to be on KABC Los Angeles’ Al Rantel show to discuss recent evidence exposing the “jobs Americans won’t do” fallacy of the open borders activists. For background info, see my Blog posting.

Thanks for the stand you are taking!

Before we jump to support the Fair Tax bill currently being proposed, we need to consider something that my representative brought to my attention when I emailed him regarding the issue: The bill does not repeal the 16th Amendment to the constitution, so it still leaves the possibility of income taxation on the table. In other words, this bill would do away with the IRS and income tax system --FOR NOW-- but because the 16th Amendment was not repealed, income taxes could later be reactivated by new legislation. This leaves us susceptible to both a national sales tax (and no small one at that) AND a new income tax in the future. Talk about double taxation! I would encourage Grassfire.org and all of its members to NOT support this bill unless it is amended to repeal the 16th Amendment to the Constitution.

Storyboards to Stop Amnesty--Steve/Ron - I hope other members will see this and will take heart that this campaign will be of significant effect--enough to back off the amnesty issue--and get it deadlocked in the senate. Thank you for your efforts on behalf of our country. If the "amnesty" bill happens to go to the House, we'll have to fight it there. If we want our country back--we have to choose to stand up for it.
