Petition Condeming Attacks On Gen. Petraeus, Our Troops

Backgrounder:
Gen. Petraeus has just made his long-awaited presentation to Congress on progress on the war in Iraq. The picture he paints is not bleak but it is not rosy either. Unfortunately, many liberals have taken to harsh, personal attacks on Petraeus and our troops. For example, MoveOn.org is calling him Gen. "Betray Us." In response, Sen. Cornyn and Rep. Boehner have introduced a resolutions condemning MoveOn.org's statements and other attacks on Gen. Petraeus and our troops.
Listen to Sen. Schumer's comments blaming the troops:

(For more on the attacks, go here.)

Grassfire.org recently signed a "Group Letter" with other organizations, headed by Concerned Women For America, condemning these attacks. We are inviting our team members to co-sign this letter as well, posted here as a FireSociety petition.

The Group Letter States:
Dear United States Senators and Member of the House of Representatives:

Gen. Petraeus is an emblem of patriotism. He has willingly taken the mandate provided by the President of the United States and the U.S. Senate to serve his country in one of the most difficult missions in the world. Gen. Petraeus is admirably living up to an extremely complicated job of heading up a war effort in a dangerous region of the world. Senators who voted unanimously to confirm Gen. Petraeus should live up to their duty to give this leader the resources and support that he needs to accomplish the mission entrusted to him.

Supporting Gen. Petraeus and U.S. troops includes condemning unwarranted attacks on the character of this good man. The vicious attack on him, his commitment to the American people and the integrity with which he leads the Multi-National Force in Iraq will go down in history as a disgrace. It will be seen not only as a reprehensible criticism of Gen. Petraeus but, by extension, those who serve under him, all members of the United States Armed Forces. It is legitimate to ask tough questions of Gen. Petraeus on his testimony but not to question his patriotism.

The Politico reported that one anonymous Democratic Senator said, "No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV. The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us." It is not a stretch for Americans to believe that MoveOn.org's malicious assault on the honor of the commanding General of Coalition forces speaks for at least some Senators. If MoveOn.org does not speak for you in attacking the man you chose to lead the armed forces in Iraq, the undersigned respectfully request that you go on record objecting to it and vote in favor of the Cornyn Resolution in the Senate and Boehner Resolution in the House of Representatives.

These resolutions strongly condemn the personal attacks on Gen. Petraeus' honor and integrity.

We, the undersigned, ask that you show this principled man the respect that he deserves by condemning personal attacks on his integrity and the forces he leads.

Thank you Steve for putting this together. It's an outcry that The Reps and Senators are not backing him up on this issue as Our American Soldiers would die in vain because of the Ried's, Kennedy's and the likes of them. Move on.org can move on as far as I am concerned.

Unbelievable!   How much as Americans are we going to put up with?  I am outraged by his comments.  Chuch Schumer your a disgrace to us as Americans.  Your IDIOT comments are without any factual basis, yet you go on  on national television and make comments the surge didn't bring peace, the Warlords took peace.....are you nuts??!!!!

You Representatives and Senators who go on national television and have nothing but personal attacks regarding our leaders is shameful.  Your all an embarassment to our Country.  You have no honor, duty or respect.  You all should be arrested for your treasonous statements.  In the midst of our war you are discrediting, the character and honor of General Petraeus?  You go on national TV and tell us our troops are incompetent?  YOU ALL ARE  A BUNCH OF MINDLESS SELF-SERVING, SELF-CENTERED POLITICAL IDIOTS.

YOU SCHUMER, PELOSI, REID, KENNEDY AND LANTOS ought to be tarred and feathered and ran up and down our streets.

My father was in the military.  My adopted father retired with honors from the military.  My nephew has been fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2003 and he currently has 18 months left on his contract.

 YOU ALL ARE UNAMERICAN.
