Background: Congressmen and women have made a mockery of of our political system. Article 1, Section 6 states, among other things that the Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. Amendment #27 (May 7, 1933) states, No law, varying the compensation for the services of Senators and Representatives shall take effect until an election of Representatives shall have intervened. Only two sections of the Constitution deal with compensation for services for Congressional Representatives. Article 1, section 6 and Amendement #27. Congress has to enact a new law everytime a raise is considered. With the lowest approval rating ever in Congress, "they", in essence, gave themselves raises for "poor job performance" the last four raises. We, the People should determine if Congressional Reps. warrant a raise or not. Oh, by the way, the average wage of a Senator? $170,000.00 a year. According to Amendment #20, section 4 (Feb. 6, 1933): The Congress shall assemble at least once in every year. THEY ARE PART-TIMERS!!! And, if they remain in office for 20 years or more they receive 1.2 million dollars a year for the rest of there lives upon retirement. For Christs sake, that's like hitting the lottery. Petition: We, the People of the United States, through this petition for a redress of grievances, demand the right to set and control any raises in compensation for both Houses of Congress, to include whether such raises in compensation are warranted or not, based on We, the Peoples perception of job performance. So say the signers of this petition, being legal citizens of the United States of America.
