The emotions are running high with the defeat of the Amnesty Bill with its supporters crying "FOUL". They are not taking defeat well but are acting like spoiled children who could not get their way because a backroom deal they had hoped to enact into law was met by a backlash of negativity as the deal and all its details became known. They knew this Bill would not have public support hence the need to bring it to the floor and vote before members of Congress could study it. Alas, they did not get their wish and the public found the details, read the Bill, and saw how bad it was.

The people who wrote and backed the Bill had to be suprised by the anger of the public who understood its implications for our country. The people spoke out!. Rather than admit they made a mistake the Bill's backers took a firm stand behind it. They blamed the Bill's defeat on a bunch of malcontents who were stired up by Talk Radio and internet sites like Fire Society who could not see how the Bill would benefit our country. This is one of the reasons why they would like to censor Talk Radio and internet sites from posting or discussing information that will spread like wild fire. The writers and supporters of the Bill saw themselves as true patriots doing what was best for the country. Those who did not support were seen as enemies to the greater good.

Webster's Dictionary defines a patriot as one who is fiercely devoted to one's nation and the foundations on which it is built. An enemy of the nation can be loosely defined as one who is not supportive of the ideas or causes being pushed by the current Administration. It does not matter whether the idea or cause be just or not. Any issue can divide a population between its supporters or opposers. Look at the conflict in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and Immigration. There are both positives and negatives that each side can point to. In this day and age those who support the President's policies and ideas are called patriotic. Those who do not support are seen as domestic enemies using a very loose definition of the term "enemy". Those of us who did not support the Amnesty Bill did not use guns or bombs but just the power of words.

The foundations of our nation are still strong but are under attack from those who want to force their views on us regardless of what we want. We made our voices heard and the halls of Congress trembled. Lines are now being drawn to define patriots and enemies. Those of us who opposed the Amnesty Bill are now seen as not being very patriotic because we stood against the wishes of a few senators and a President who thought it was good for the country.

So who are the patriots and who are the enemies? You decide.

Well said Commander 212.  I guess you could call me patriotic enemy!  I am opposed to amnesty and feel that this bill would have done just that.  It would have freed millions of illegals to take advantage of all that we have worked so hard for.  Most of these people have never even paid into the social security system.  I may never draw on my social security, but it is nice knowing that I have it there.

I have a feeling that big business may have a lot to do with how our representatives have handled this bill.  I just can't reconcile that they would be so hard headed as they have been without some influence from some that stood to gain a lot out of the bill.  Of course, this is my opinion.

I was absolutely elated when Bush was elected President.  I thought that if anyone could get us back on track, it would be him.  Now, I am just not sure.  He is the Commander and Chief of our Country and I respect the Office of the President but.....

I opposed the Amnesty Bill because it would have crippled our schools, our communities and our economy-our COUNTRY, in other words. I could not let that happen, so I joined Firesociety and helped defeat that bill. I am a patriot, and I LOVE America!
