President Bush ia a man with big dreams for America. At the beginning of his Presidency the President has made it public that he would like a world where democracy and the rights of all people would be respected and that no one individual should stand in the way especially where US interests were concerned. Here we have the story of a man who desired to carve a legacy where he would be forever immortalized in the history books as the man who helped bring freedom to the world while expressing he was doing the Will of God. The war with Iraq began with the need to remove Sadam from power and the threat his regime posed to the freedom of the world. We were able to topple Sadam as he was no more than a man with a big mouth who liked to spout threats of what he was going to do. We were successful, then we stepped on the path of rebuilding Iraq and establishing an American style democracy. Remember how we were going to build the largest embassy in the world in Baghdad and establish a center where democracy could be spread to the other nations in the Middle East. What happened instead was the centuries old conflict between the Sunnis and Shia erupted as the Shia long oppressed under Sadam saw this as a chance to regain and assert their authority as the majority group. Unlike expectations after the initial celebrations ended the war of retribution began. Now we are caught in the middle of a sectarian conflict where we are being seen by some as occupiers instead of liberators. The goal of the President to build a unified and pro US government in Iraq seems no where in sight. The people of America don't fully know how total victory is defined. The people want answers and the longer the war drags on without visable long term success the grumbling will continue. Now to Immigration. As a believer in freedom and giving opportunities to oppressed and people who feel hopeless and trapped in their home countries The President is taking the words on the Statue of Liberty literally when it comes to our Southern border with Mexico. The people crossing are the poor and hopeless who are comming here looking for a better life. Some are criminals and some are engaged in illegal activities. Still we welcome them as people willing to do the jobs that employers can't find American citizens to do (at least that's what we are told). The open arms policy reminds be of the situation where Castro emptied his prisons and sent them here on that large boatlift. They were welcomed here because they would be free from communism yet upon arriving many still committed crimes against US citizens. Ever wonder how many of these illegals from Mexico have criminal pasts that the Mexican government is hiding from us. We have to admit that Mexico has not been honest with us and they have their best interests involved not ours. The dream of a united Tri-Nation union will serve the best interests of Mexico only. Neither the US or Canada will profit from this. This a goal that the President considers good for us and will do nothing that might jeopardize that agreement including pardoning the border agents. It appears that President Bush in attempt to carve his legacy as the Champion of Freedom may involve sacrificing the rights of some US citizens. This is similar to the cliche "You have to break a few eggs to make a good omelet". The leaders of our nation need to remember that their duties lie to the American public not to the other peoples of the world be they our neighbors or on distant shores. Hopefully they will heed the cries of the people who suffer from their good intentions! |
