Looking on the web I discovered some interesting information when I searched under the topic "attorney firings and Mexican immigration". Some of what I found were statements that President Bush and current Attorney General Gonzales were that:

1. President Bush supports the decision to imprison the border agents for violating the civil rights of this illegal ( even though he was involved in drug smuggling).

2. President Bush and Gonzales both support Sutton and want him kept as part of the team.

3. The attoneys who were fired were not gun-ho supporters of Bush's new ideas on Mexican immigration and may have been in the way of getting of support for these new policy ideas.

4. One thing I found out was that the Patriot Act gives the Attorney General the right to appoint attorneys without Congressional Approval. Is this correct?

These are serious issues that need to be addressed if any of these statements are true. Iraq and Afghanistan have been addressed as issues important to our nation's security but not much has been said about secuity along the Mexican border. President Bush may want to develop strong relationships with Mexico but immigration is not the way to go about doing it. America cannot keep allowing more and more illegals to cross our border without addressing security issues that these illegals might pose. The administration cannot promise the American people that all of these illegals are honest, decent, hardworking people who are here to do the jobs that Americans don't want to do. Personally I cannot see that the 12 million illegals are here to pick lettuce and other vegatables and not take jobs that hard working Americans want.

These new policies that the Bush Administration is pushing probably mean that the imprisoned border agents will stay in prison until a new President is elected. Politicians push political agendas without regard to wishes of what the American people want. One issue of concern is the latino vote which can have an impact with states with large numbers of electorial votes. Everybody will have an opinion on this issue. Some will support the illegals and others will not.

Maintaining good relations with Mexico is one of the Bush administration's top priorities but sacrificing the rights of American citizens to accomplish these goals does not bode well for the future of our nation and may deliver us into the hands of the Democrats for the next four to eight years. The damage done by putting Mexican immigrants first may wound us so bad that the wounds created may never fully heal.

Time reveals the truth and all lies will eventually come to light. It is easy to divert attention from our southern border by focusing on the Middle East but in time this too will need to be addressed as we watch our culture and heritage become influenced by the Mexican culture. The President must remember that his duty is to the American people. What the President of Mexico wants is irrelevant for just as our flag is never dipped before a foreign leader at the Olympics so America will never bow to the wishes of another country even if that country is a friend.

Commander 212, your article is excellent.  However, I am afraid that this country has bowed to the wishes of another country, Mexico, as far as that country's interference with our justice system (Sipe, Brugman, Compean, Ramos, and Hernandez).  Letters and notes indicate that the Mexican government started our government's prosecution and persecution of most, if not all, of these men!

I feel sure your are correct about President Bush's feelings about the agents.  As I told him in a fax: if he wanted them pardoned, they would walk free today.  And Gonzales talks about them as if he hates them.  Such cruelty is just beyond my understanding!

Ever since this thing started with Alberto Gonzalez, I've been saying the very same thing. It's just another piece to the amnesty puzzle. People are pleading the 5th, and Bush is swearing up and down that he will never let anyone testify under oath. This alone tells all of America, and the world, that they have something HUGE to hide - and that is, that they were fired because they didn't agree with this administration's amnesty push. With all of this going on, our country no longer has a government, or at least I don't see it as one. Want to know what I see? I see an OCCUPATION! Bush is telling us, "it's my way or the highway," and I'll be damned if he wins. Everytime Bush speaks, I can see him raising his hand and clicking his heels. I certainly hope this ongoing investigation into the firings of these attorneys get our country digging deep at this infested wound so that we may cut the infections out of our government and get back to being THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE, and where we SPEAK ENGLISH.
