A few months ago, I got a letter from Dr. Chaudhrie, an Indian man living in Madhya Pradesh, India challenging me to stand in prayer for the conflict in Iraq.

He's not an American, he doesn't have a son serving in the military, and as far as I know he has no direct connection with Iraq or anyone living there. Why would he be concerned? Because he's a thinking man, and he understands 2 things.

1 - The conflict in Iraq is not just about Iraq or America, it has far reaching implications that will play out on the scene of world history for generations to come. It's everyone's concern.

2 - The situation is beyond a political or military solution. The strongest nation in the world has thrown everything they have at it twice, and it's still a huge quagmire. Only prayer will make a difference.

Reading his letter stirred me to action. I felt the current military push for Baghdad needed a corresponding spiritual push to undergird the effort there, and bring about the peace that we all want.

That's how the Baghdad Prayer Patrol was born. Just 1 minute a day to stand with the troops. www.prayercentral.net/baghdad

If you believe in prayer, you will probably never have a better opportunity to change the course of world history than you do right now, praying for Baghdad.

The Prayer Patrol is headin' out... please join us.

Very thoughtfull article.  I agree that the results of the Iraq conflict will affect all the surrounding countries in that region.  It's too bad that we will not see in the mainstream media photos of American troops in prayer nor see more debate on the ramifications of how this conflict will affect the future of all countries!

I warms my soul to hear that there are people outside the realms of Western Society and the Middle East that understand what is at stake in Iraq. We need more people like the good doctor in Washington. While I agree that prayer and spiritual guidance are needed more than anything at this pivotal moment in history, I disagree that we have thrown everything that we have at Iraq. Our boys over there are fighting a war with one hand tied behind their back. There is actually a seven step process that a soldier or marine must satisfy before they are authorized to fire on the enemy, if the enemy hasn't physically fired a shot at them. Also, the media's whistle-blowing on any and every occurrance that they can turn into a moral condemnation against our fighting men and women doesn't help either (and this from the same media that brought us endless defense of the lovable disbarred felon, Bill Clinton). But even with all of that our boys are still kicking butt, you just don't hear about it. I say keep the prayers coming, they need them over there.
