Background:

Recently, Texas Gvnr. Rick Perry took it upon himself to mandate legislaGardasil logotion to Texans requiring a vaccine be administered to girls entering 6th grade. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medic...

The vaccine is newly approved by the FDA and developed by Merk. Gardasil's purpose is to help prevent some types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) that can lead to cervical cancer. http://www.gardasil.com/

The people of Texas are not opposed to the vaccine. We are opposed to the government ordering us to use it. (It is a three shot series at $120 per shot.) We are also opposed to the idea of the government ordering us to use a vaccine on our young daughters for a disease that is sexually transmitted.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the HPV in question is not a public threat of mass proportion. It is not a disease that wreaks havoc on society and kills most of whom contract it. The CDC says there are about 100 types of HPV. Of those, about 30 are sexually transmitted. Of those 30, about 10 types "can lead, in RARE CASES, to developement of cervical cancer." Furthermore, said types of HPV becomes undetectable within two years 90% of the time. Therefore; since Govnr. Perry is hyping this vaccine and attempting to mandate it against "rare cases," this petition is in order to let the Texas government know that we know they are out of line.

The Petition States:

Governor Perry, TX Dept. of Health,

We, the people, know that the HPV that Merk's vaccine "Gardasil" is designed to treat is not an eminent and pervailing threat to society and public health. We do not oppose the use or sale of Gardasil. We do oppose your overhyping of rare occurances that can be caused by the types of HPV Gardasil is designed for.

We also oppose any government or corporate agency attempting to force this unnecessary vaccine upon our children. To use Gardasil, or any drug simular, should be a desicion made by the parents of children or of the adult female wishing to take it.

I am a person that believes in reality, no matter how much I dislike many things that happen. I don't think the government should force us to do anything. What is the point of holding the title of "Land of the Free" if we aren't free to think for ourselves. On the flip side, and I have a young daughter myself, I think it is naive to think that our daughters might not be having sex in middle school. It happens more often than any of us would like. All we can do, in that respect, is to teach our kids the best we can and hope/pray they listen.

The government should absolutely stay out of the business of mandating any type of medical procedure or vaccinations, unless the disease is something of a non sexually contracted nature and can be spread by normal, casual human contact, as is the case with Polio and other such scouges.
