Background:

Texas Gvnr. Rick Perry is pushing hard from a multi-lane road from Loredo, around San Antonio, around Dallas, through Sherman into Oklahoma. The road is known as the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC.) It will include rail and utility infrastructure. To be more exact, "Ten vehicle lanes, six rail tracks, utilities, pipelines, state concessions (restaraunts, hotels, gas stations, etc.) all on 4,000 miles of toll roads that will consume more than one-half millions acres of Texas." http://www.corridorwatch.org/ttc/inde... It will be a 50 year project. On the surface, it seems to be a great idea. http://www.keeptexasmoving.org/about/

Many people will lose their land to eminant domain for this project. The road will then be temporarily (50 to 100 years) operated and maintained by Spanish company Cintra who is investing in the project. This means Cintra will have absolute authority to collect tolls and operate the highway free from supervision or regulation by any government entity, as well as be subsidized by taxpayers. (Which, incidently, is the same company converting Texas SH 121 into a toll road.) www.cintra.es (Google "cintra" to translate to English.)

Adding insult to injury, the TTC is to be coupled with the NAFTA Superhighway.

These two maps indicate the proposed NAFTA Superhighway routes.

I believe the Govenor is too well invested in by highway lobbyist. Still, it is important to let him and the TX DOT know how we feel.

The Petition:

Governor Perry and TXDOT,

We, the citizens, feel that you are not acting in the best interest of, not only Texas, but the United States by continuing to press forward with the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC.) Not only will many people lose their lands to eminent domain, but you are allowing their lands to be taken and managed by foreign companies. This is utterly unacceptable.

We, the citizens demand you put a halt to the TTC.

Isn't it too late to try to stop this.  If people are concerned, they should have voted against him in the latest election.  Big money is always going to run this country.  We can get mad, but really, besides sounding off. What can we do.  It suprised me he was re-elected.  Obviously, to further line his pockets and the pockets of his big money friends.  I voted against him. I voted for Kinky. Just to make a statement.

Mary, I voted the same way. I really expected Strayhorn to win. I honestly don't think the TTC can be stopped, but I do think some changes can be made, such as control given to a foreign company. If you recall, public outcry, not too long ago, stopped Dubai Ports World from being able to have control in US ports.

Hopeully, we can acheive, at minimum, preventing Cintra from having control over Texas property. Perhaps another petition specifying opposition to Cintra would be in order?
