I have had a credit card with MBNA, who has merged with Bank of America, for about 10 years and I don't believe my rate is much lower. My MBNA card was obtained as it was affiliated with the university from which I am an alum--some part of purchases through the credit card go back to your university. I remember when I obtained my card--I needed a SS#, mother's maiden name, yearly income etc. and I am a legal citizen. BofA says they are not breaking any laws. That might not be as they have found a loop hole. However, they are aiding and abetting illegal immigrants and making it easier for them to remain here. We need to discontinue perks such as this as well as free education, in-state tuition, free healthcare etc. So yesterday I took action and I hope you will do the same. I called the local Bank of America and expressed my displeasure with them. Then I called MBNA and verified that they had merged with BofA and then requested to cancel my credit card. During the process, the employee asked for the last four digits of my SS#. I asked her what would happen if I said I didn't have one -- she was at a total loss for words. I also called my university, informed them and asked them to evaluate their business links. Most universities subscribe to this type of credit card promo. If yours does, make your voice known -- it could have a big impact! |
